Riad Zitoune

The Client

Riad Zitoune, a traditional riad in Marrakesh, was in need of a brand identity, a logo and a website.

The Challenge

Zitoune used to be an old spice trader’s house. The new owners, a young couple from Germany and Morocco, had taken on renovating the place in a way to preserve its original colors and exotic spice scent.

The Solution

Starting from scratch, our task was to create digital visuals for this hidden gem in the heart of Marrakesh’s medina.

Let Your Heart be Your Guide

To differentiate Zitoune from the hundreds of boutique riads in Marrakesh, we needed to find the best emotional way to connect with travelers. We decided to portray how special this place is, by transporting people directly to it.

Storytelling and beautifully crafted video scenes let viewers experience Zitoune’s adjacent streets, vibrant souk, the chaos of colors and flavors.

An interactive view of the rooms shows their unique charm, designed in the old days of Morocco. You can almost taste the exotic aromas that hang in the air. We also added music to the mix for a full emersion experience.

Responsive View on Every Device

We wanted to make sure Zitoune’s lovely web presence was fully honored on every platform, desktop, laptop, iphone, ipad and digital design. We put special care in the crafting of blending video frames, the online menu and photo galleries.

Renovating Zitoune to Life

Our team started to work on Zitoune’s web design at the same time Alex and Ahmed started renovating the house. The young couple needed a web presence so they can list the riad with various hotel brokers ahead of time. We had to design blindfolded, wi th no visuals to guide the way.

The first launch of the site featured stock images and our perception of the ongoing renovations. We were able to add Zitoune’s authentic colors subsequently when the rooms were finally ready to welcome their first guests. We had to strategize, plane and visualize...in the dark.

It was a challenge that paid off.

custom logo and iconset:

The Essence of Tradition

We drew the logo in the shape of an olive (une “zitoune”) following an old berber style. We wanted to keep the essence of Morocco alive in Zitoune’s band identity.

Alex and Ahmed’s love for Marrakesh, their hospitality and Zitoune’s magical atmosphere were our guiding palettes for the project.
